Bishopton Railway Station. The top photo shows the station around the 1900's. The initials C.R. stands for Caledonian Railways. Trains first ran from Bishopton in March 1841 when the Greenock to Glasgow line was opened. This railway had to be cut through deep rock at and tunneled through a ridge to the Clyde (picture to come). This work took two years and the cost of the gunpowder for blasting the two tunnels was over £12,000. Changes have happened here with the waiting room and booking office being demolished. The station still wins awards and on a personal view its clean and friendly just like the rest of the village :-) |
